Specialist business property advisor, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of Yeoldon House Hotel a splendid 10-bedroom hotel in Bideford, Devon with spectacular views across the River Torridge, to an experienced hospitality operator.
Set within 2 acres of mature gardens, the property was constructed in the 19th century as a grand gentleman’s residence and as such retains an abundance of characterful features. It has been extensively and tastefully refurbished in recent years and features a bar & guest lounge, as well as a breakfast room/restaurant both of which can accommodate 20 guests.
The business has been owned and operated for the past 6 years by John & Ilona Mineikis who sought a sale in order to retire. John & Ilona comments, “It seems a little sad to leave Yeoldon House after so many years but then all good things have to come to an end at some time. We met a lot of people and catered for many weddings and functions. Although at times it was quite hard work, it was a joy to be part of other people’s lives. We are pleased and happy for Simon and Emma who have wonderful plans for Yeoldon House opening a new chapter in her history. Many thanks to Stephen and his team at Christies for such a smooth operation.”
Yeoldon House Hotel has been purchased by experienced operators Simon and Emma Morris who plan to convert the property into a luxury self-catering holiday let. Simon is one of the founders and part owner of Travel Chapter, a holiday letting agency that operates brands such as holidaycottages.co.uk. Simon comments, “We are both local people and have known Yeoldon House personally for many years. We are delighted to be buying this historic house and have some exciting plans for the future. Dealing with Christie & Co was a pleasure from start to finish and they even made our dog very welcome when we popped into see them.”
Stephen Champion, Director at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments, “We are delighted to have sold Yeoldon House Hotel on behalf of our clients and look forward to seeing how the business is transformed over the coming months under Simon and Emma’s ownership. We predict 2020 to be a positive year for transactions as we move past the uncertainty caused by Brexit and the election.”
Yeoldon House Hotel was sold on a freehold basis off an asking price of £995,000.
