Derby City Council has agreed the sale of three of its care homes to independent care provider, Agincare. The care homes – Merrill House, Raynesway View and Coleridge House – provide residential care to older people within Derby.
Derby City Council was advised by Cushman & Wakefield’s Healthcare team which provided strategic advice on the care homes before bringing them to market. The Council’s objectives were to ensure the continued care of residents and the employment of staff.
Agincare expect to create over 100 new jobs in the area as part of this process and strengthen their East Midlands portfolio which provides services in Wolverhampton, Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire, Lincoln and North Staffordshire.
Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Housing, Cllr Roy Webb, said: “We are very glad to be able to secure investment and jobs in the care sector in Derby, at a time when Council resources are coming under increasing demand. The Council looks forward to building its relationship with Agincare and also for Agincare to meet other care providers in the City.”
Raina Summerson, CEO of Agincare said: “We are pleased and proud to be given the opportunity to welcome these services, which have historically been such an integral part of their local communities, into our organisation. We greatly look forward to working with the existing Derby residents and teams through what will be major refurbishment of these homes. This will bring these sites ‘back-to-life’ as fantastic community hubs, with fit-for-future facilities and high quality but affordable care provision for local Derby residents, both funded and self-funded.”
Gary Yeardley of Cushman & Wakefield’s Healthcare team added: “We are delighted with the outcome of this process. Ensuring the continued delivery of affordable care and employment at the homes were of paramount importance to Derby City Council. Agincare’s enthusiasm and perseverance through the whole process evidenced that they were the perfect fit for this opportunity. With refurbishment works already underway, we look forward to seeing the finished product under Agincare’s ownership.”
