Work on an extension to a Weston-super-Mare crematorium site has been completed, with a memorial garden, burial ground and additional car parking having been provided at the site.
Acting for The Crematorium & Memorial Group, property consultancy Harris Lamb secured planning permission for the extension at the cemetery and crematorium in Worle, before being tasked with managing the project through to completion.
Paul Wells, Director, said: “The existing Ebdon Road crematorium building was initially redeveloped a few years ago, but having secured permission for additional facilities, our Building Consultancy team was instructed to oversee the provision of 70 additional much-needed new car parking spaces, a dedicated burial site, and the creation of a new memorial garden.
“Further to securing and appointing contractors to carry out the work, we project managed the whole process to ensure that the operation was carried out efficiently, within the forecast timescales and within the allocated budget.
“The scheme had a number of complexities with a significant amount of soil importation to form the new level, and extensive retaining structure required to form the car park, and an intricate design for the memorial garden incorporating landscaping, waterways and decorative features creating a tranquil, engaging environment for visitors to spend time remembering their loved ones.
“The extension of the site has now been completed, and the garden will be tended in the coming weeks prior to it being officially opened in order to establish the plants we’ve put in place so that it is looking its best,” he added.
Peter Evans of The Crematorium & Memorial Group said: “We are delighted to have completed the second phase of the extension at Worle Crematorium. Harris Lamb was instrumental at all stages in the process and helped to smoothly navigate some complex issues along the way.”
The extension is expected to be formally opened in the spring.
