Leeds-based Castlehouse Construction has been recognised as a Considerate Constructor with accreditations across three of its Yorkshire sites for leading national retailer Lidl, as well as a new retail, leisure and business destination in Northallerton. Two schemes have received Performance Beyond Compliance endorsements, with one site receiving the Considerate Contractor certificate.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme was created to recognise the highest-performing construction sites in the UK and measure them against its stringent Code of Considerate Practice. The code looks at how considerate the site is and is designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements. Project managers are judged by inspectors against 5 criteria such as Appearance, Community – being a good neighbour, approach to the Environment, as well as its attitude and responsibility to Safety and Value of its Workforce.
The £17M Treadmills development scheme to transform the former Northallerton Prison into a new retail, leisure and business destination, received the Performance Beyond Compliance accreditation. The scheme will deliver a retail area providing Lidl, Iceland and a number of smaller retail units. The project, led by Kevin Simon, Project Manager, scored an excellent rating in all 5 categories and the team were highly commended for their professional set up and excellent organisation.
Andy Lyon, Project Manager on the construction of the new £3.3M retail store in Beverley for client Lidl, also received the Performance Beyond Compliance accredited certificate for exceeding the standards set by the scheme and was awarded a rating of excellent in 4 out of the five categories.
Chris Anderson, Project Manager for the new build Lidl supermarket on Chain Lane in Knaresborough was awarded the Considerate Contractor certificate. The site was built to replace the existing store on York Road and Chris was commended for valuing the workforce on site and providing facilities which paid particular attention to health and wellbeing.
