A new state-of-the-art, multi-activity trampoline centre is set to rise from the ashes with a major development near Nuneaton finally being given the go ahead.
Planning permission has been granted for a 32,000 sq ft unit plus a 9,000 sq ft first floor viewing gallery to replace the building destroyed by fire last October which housed the popular Red Kangaroo Trampoline Park.
More than 70 firefighters tackled the blaze in School Lane but were unable to save the building which had been converted to a huge trampoline park and play centre earlier in 2018. The fire was subsequently proved to have been started accidentally.
The Wigley Group, owners of the site, put forward redevelopment plans earlier this year and will now start building the purpose-designed home for Red Kangaroo, in addition to a new industrial unit of around 25,000 sq ft for separate leasing.
James Davies, managing director of The Wigley Group, said: “A year on from the fire, we are delighted to be able to start work on this major regeneration which will provide a bespoke home for Red Kangaroo and a new commercial unit for another enterprise.
“Whilst the fire was a major blow to ourselves and Red Kangaroo, it has given the opportunity to transform this site and create what promises to be one of the best trampoline parks of its kind in the UK.
“As well as bringing a new and improved leisure attraction back to the people of Nuneaton, Bedworth and Coventry, the additional unit will provide a further boost to the local economy with new job opportunities.”
The Wigley Group is making further investment in the site in addition to the insurance settlement to create the two new buildings.
Work is due to be completed next year ahead of Red Kangaroo re-opening and a new occupier being secured for the other unit.
Paul Wrightman, managing director of Red Kangaroo, said: “We, and our customers, can’t wait to open again.
“The Wigley Group has allowed us to take the opportunity to design a purpose-built building and park from scratch, which is a unique experience for us.
“As well as our array of trampolines, our multi-activity park will naturally stage our usual favourites, airbag jump, wipe-out and ninja plus a few surprises incorporating the latest developments in the leisure market.
“We are hoping for a re-opening in the third quarter of 2020.”
Any enquiries relating to the additional unit should be made to Bromwich Hardy or GVA.
