Structural and civil engineering firm Elliott Wood is defying the economic gloom by expanding its Nottingham office to accommodate the team’s increasing workload across the region.
The London-based firm set up a satellite Nottingham office five years ago to support a growing project list across the Midlands. The office has more than quadrupled in size since 2007 – and now employs 12 people.
Peter Smith, a senior associate with the company, originally set up the Nottingham base, and after a period in serviced offices, took space within the office of Nottingham architects Marchini Curran Associates (MCa).
Due to a growing number of large contracts and to accommodate the growing team, Elliott Wood has now taken the whole of the office in Halifax Place in the city centre – totalling 4,000 Sq ft. The expansion follows the relocation of MCa to the Lace Market earlier this month.
Peter Smith said: “The growth we have since experienced has surpassed any of our expectations, and because we have continued to acquire bigger contracts, and more of them, we have now gained a substantially bigger share of the regional market.
“I believe that a key ingredient to our success is the quality of the service we provide to our customers as it differentiates us from our competitors and has helped us to generate new business.
“We have a broad and holistic understanding of the construction process and as a consequence, we work with many established architectural practices, market leading developers, contractors, young aspiring architects, interior designers, artists and sculptors. We have recently won a place on the national framework for retail giant Morrisons and have also played a central role in the construction of the RIBA award winning office refurbishment at Brayford Wharf in Lincoln.”
The team at the Nottingham office has also worked on numerous projects in Nottinghamshire, including the external works for Nottingham Contemporary Gallery, one of the largest arts centres in the UK. The firm also gives structural advice on the construction of the exhibits at the gallery.
The team has also worked on a number of complex and structurally demanding specialist projects such as sculptures and glass structures. Many of the team’s projects have won industry awards, including the RIBA Award 2011 for its work on the development of a residential development on Cemetery Road in Sheffield.
David Morgan, partner at Elliott Wood, said: “The success of the Nottingham office has been astounding, and we are delighted that we are now much more than just a presence in the region, we are a recognised name and are real competitors in the regional marketplace. The significant expansion of the Nottingham office is testament to the fact that we are still acquiring new contracts all the time, in spite of the continuing difficulties faced by the sector. We see this growth as the next step in our expansion in to the Midlands and wider areas.”
