Specialists in the primary care property sector at independent advisor GVA, have completed their role in the development of the new Creech Medical Centre in Somerset.
GVA was property adviser and project manager for the new medical centre, assisting the centre’s partners in the acquisition of the development site and assessment of project viability. GVA was integral in negotiating the building contract and project managing the matter through to successful completion.
Senior Director, Richard Taylor said, “The building has been completed on time and to budget, and will provide a fabulous new state of the art primary health care centre for the rural population in this part of Somerset, with an on-site retail pharmacy and patient car parking.
“GVA is delighted to have facilitated in the delivery of this project involving our specialist primary care development team in Bristol.”
Staff, patients and developers came together to celebrate the official opening of the newly built Creech St Michael Medical Centre, which was opened by Mrs Jane Barrie OBE Chairman of Somerset Primary Care Trust.
The style of the new building is modern and incorporates four consulting rooms, two treatment areas (designed to easily accommodate disabled patients) and a spacious reception area on the ground floor. The second floor accommodates the practice’s administrative offices, staff and conference rooms. There is also ample parking for patients and a pharmacy on site.
After cutting a ribbon marking the centre’s opening, Jane Barrie, OBE, Chairman of NHS Somerset said: “I am delighted to be able to officially open the new Creech St Michael Medical Centre. Over the last three years Somerset Primary Care Trust has supported additional investment into the majority of Somerset’s GP premises, with some 53 of the county’s 76 surgeries being either refurbished, extended or rebuilt. Such developments are helping to ensure local family doctors are well placed to manage the growing demands upon the NHS and offer health care closer to home.”
Thanking Mrs Barrie, Dr Willemijn Balder, Senior Partner with the practice said: “We are delighted to have finally moved into this new building. Everyone has worked tremendously hard to make this new centre possible and see it completed and open to patients. From these new premises we will be able to provide excellent medical care for our growing population, with plenty of room for other health professionals plus we will be able to accommodate the growth in patients that we anticipate in future years.”
