The Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors has installed Hollis Senior Partner, John Woodman, as its Master.
Livery Companies have existed in London for circa 850 years, and currently there are 110 of them. The Chartered Surveyors Company is a modern Livery Company that was formed in 1977.
One of the most important things Livery Companies do is carry out charitable work. The primary charitable objective of the Surveyors Company is to create opportunities for young people to join the profession, who, without the help of the Company, would not have the opportunity to do so. It does this via a bursary programme funded by charitable donations, and via an education programme which raises awareness of opportunities in the property profession in our schools and colleges, pursuing in the process a clear diversity and inclusion agenda.
New Master, John Woodman, says: “It is a great honour to be appointed the 43rd Master of The Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors, succeeding Digby Flower, Cushman and Wakefield UK and Ireland Chair.
“This is a very exciting time for the Company. Our membership continues to grow, and there is a clear desire from our members to give something back, and that is fantastic. In a world where social responsibility is so important, it is great to see our members leading the way. Whilst Livery Companies are steeped in great tradition, we are not old fashioned. Whilst in Livery terms our past is not long, it has been packed full of good work, and there is much more to come.”
