Work is underway to convert a Coventry block of offices into a 96-bedroom student accommodation development.
Real estate developer Urban Village Group is delivering the £15 million scheme at Ringway House in Hill Street, near the popular Belgrade Plaza retail and leisure destination.
The 1970’s office block is being transformed into apartments, each with six bedrooms for students, and associated facilities such as kitchens and communal areas. The development includes a roof extension providing room for more apartments.
Nick Sellman, chief executive of Birmingham-based Urban Village Group, said: “It’s great to see work begin on site as we take the first steps towards delivering a high quality development of student apartments.
“The location is amazing, being on the doorstep of the very popular Belgrade Plaza, where there is a great variety of retail and leisure opportunities, and just a relatively short walk to Coventry University. The university is very successful, and is becoming increasingly popular with students from the UK and from overseas, and there is a growing demand in the city for high quality purpose-built accommodation.”
He added: “Our construction team has started work on stripping out the building and we are on course to be ready for students to move in at the start of the 2020/21 academic year. These are exciting times for the city of Coventry and we are delighted to be a part of its success story.”
Urban Village Group’s mission is to deliver quality residential developments that generate target returns for institutional and private investors.
