Rodgers Leask has been appointed as civil and structural engineers for a £15 million new parcels sorting facility being developed in Staffordshire, the company announced today.
Midlands-based Rodgers Leask is working alongside Opus Land to develop a 140,000 sq ft National Sortation Centre and offices for APC Overnight at Kingswood Lakeside, Cannock.
Opus Land is expected to deliver APC’s Overnight hub before the end of the year.
The new facility, situated adjacent to the M6 Toll Road, will provide double the capacity of APC’s existing site near Wolverhampton. APC reported 12 per cent growth in 2011 and handled 17 million parcels.
Rodgers Leask has offices in Derby, Birmingham and London. Director Paul Spencer said: “We are delighted to announce that we have been appointed by Opus Land as civil and structural engineers to help deliver APC’s impressive new hub in Cannock.
“Our experience and expertise in similar projects is widely recognised by leading developers such as Opus Land and we expect the project to be successfully completed inside the next six months.”
He added: “Our role has involved designing the foundations for the buildings and basic superstructure elements such as steel frames, masonry, secondary steel work, roads, yards and the drainage related to these areas. As a former open-cast mining site, it has also required a great deal of groundwork.”
APC chief executive Syed Ziaullah said: “The new hub is a major investment in our business and will enable us to grow and meet the increased demand from our customers. It is great to welcome aboard the contractors that are going to help bring the site out of the ground and I am very exciting to see the scheme moving forward.”
Opus Land Development Director, Gareth Williams: “We are delighted to be engaged on APC’s new distribution hub – our second high profile project at Kingswood Lakeside Park. APC’s facility will be the end result of a close working relationship, during which we have developed a freehold, design and build solution which perfectly matches their requirements both now and into the future.”
Rodgers Leask has designed multi-storey steel and concrete framed structures for a variety of clients ranging from multi-million pound manufacturing facilities through to commercial offices, institutional and industrial buildings, residential properties, hotel and leisure centres of varying size and complexity.
