Savills, on behalf of St John’s College, has let two retail units at 16 St John’s Street and 72 Bridge Street in Cambridge to Pocket Watch & Petticoats and Pure Source British Isles Ltd respectively.
The vintage women’s clothing store has agreed to a new five-year lease for space totalling 632 sq ft (58 sq m) and will occupy the ground floor at 16 St John’s Street. Subsequently, Pure Source, the skin care and health supplement store, has also agreed to a new five-year lease for 900 sq ft (84 sq m) at 72 Bridge Street. Both retailers have now commenced trading.
There are a further two retail units now available to let at 13 St John’s Street and 67 Bridge Street totalling 1,476 sq ft (137 sq m) and 893 sq ft (82 sq m) respectively. The occupational costs within this part of Cambridge are up to a 1/3 of those within the prime pitch, despite being just half a mile away.
Rupert Dando, surveyor in the business space team at Savills Cambridge, comments: “The recent lettings at 16 St John’s Street and 72 Bridge Street demonstrates there is continued demand from retailers to occupy space within Cambridge’s city centre and that the market remains robust despite the negative sentiment surrounding the sector. With a considerable independent offer and large visitor numbers the city remains a popular location and St John’s Street and Bridge Street both generate significant footfall and provide retailers with an opportunity to capitalise on affluent shoppers at a fraction of the price of neighbouring thoroughfares. For this reason we anticipate significant interest in the available units in the coming months.”
