A Devizes-based personal training and fitness studio has relocated to larger premises in the town, after agreeing rental terms on a modern industrial unit through Alder King and WRE.
Pure Grit Personal Training, which opened its previous gym on Folly Road in Devizes in 2016, has seen its client base grow by up to 60% over the past three years. Demand for group training sessions has also increased.
Its new unit – at Devizes Trade Centre on Hopton Park Industrial Estate – is double the size of the previous studio and on two floors. The additional space allows personal training sessions to be held on the ground floor with group fitness classes on the first floor.
The ground floor has been fitted out with strength-based equipment. Zowie Trevena, joint owner of Pure Grit PT Devizes, is a competitive Strongwoman and Powerlifter and recently qualified for the World Powerlifting Congress European Championships which will take place in Ireland on 14th June. A number of female clients are also training in readiness for Wiltshire’s Strongest Man/Woman competition being held in Chippenham in September.
Zowie Trevena said: “The layout and space in our new studio work extremely well for our needs and allow us to give clients more opportunities with their training, with personal training sessions as well as a private gym in a non-intimidating and private training environment. We can now offer a Strongman/Powerlifting facility in Devizes, something the town previously lacked.
“We also now benefit from passing traffic which we didn’t have before.”
James Gregory, partner at Alder King in Swindon, said: “Demand from the gym sector has been a permanent trend in the market in recent years, with a growing number of industrial units being taken by individual and chain gym operators.
“If this continues, we may see more vacant retail units being repurposed as gym premises, as operators seek well-located space with good footfall and parking facilities.”
Pure Grit secured change of use consent and signed a 10 year lease on Unit 12 Devizes Trade Centre. The 1,282 sq ft property was recently refurbished by the landlord after it was vacated by the previous occupier.
