Harris Lamb’s Building Consultancy has successfully overseen the construction of new industrial and office buildings in Worcester on behalf of Fortis Living.
The housing provider, which merged with Waterloo Housing Group in October 2018 to form the new Platform Housing Group, instructed Harris Lamb to oversee the build of two 15,000 sq ft buildings on Midland Road.
The £4.8 million contract was completed in April after a 14-month build process.
Paul Wells, Director, said: “Harris Lamb has been heavily involved in this project for some time. We initially won a tender two years ago to identify a site for a new office for Fortis, before overseeing a planning application to build both this new 15,000 sq ft headquarters for the organisation and a commercial building to address the shortage of industrial property in Worcester.
“We then acted as the employer’s agent and project managers for the contract, appointing contractors for the site and overseeing the entire build process. This was a complex brownfield site with a number of arising issues, including slow worms on site, and a river culvert under the site, necessitating a re-plan and resubmission to factor it in. We also had to accommodate working next to a railway during the build process.
“We successfully overcame these issues, completing the buildings in April. The client is expecting to move into the new headquarters imminently, while the Agency team has already sold the industrial site to Heart of Worcestershire College,” he added.
“We’re very pleased with the specification of the buildings and the way that the project was completed to the projected timescales and budgets. The college has now begun to make the necessary modifications to the site for its needs,” Paul said.
Harris Lamb is also responsible for marketing Fortis Living’s former HQ in Malvern.
