Professionals and their families from Bristol and beyond will be coming together next month in memory of a leading business figure in the city who passed away last year.
Property professional Malcolm Gunter was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2017 and lost his fight against the condition the following year. Former friends and colleagues then set up the Malcolm Gunter Foundation to support Malcolm’s family and others in their situation, and to fund further research into the disease.
All proceeds from the Colliers Bristol TRYathlon 2019, which takes place at Tockington Manor School on Friday, May 31, will go towards the foundation.
Each year the event, run by the Bristol office of global real estate advisor Colliers International, sees professionals from across the UK undertake a 400 m indoor swim, 16 km cycle and 5 km run, either as individuals or in teams of three.
This year there is a greater emphasis on first-time TRYathlon participants, with a trophy being presented to the best novice. The day will also feature live music and a barbecue, and participants are welcome to bring their families and friends along to watch them compete.
“Malcolm was due to become President of the Bristol Property Agents’ Association this year but the disease took hold so fast that this was not possible,” says John Sisman, a trustee of the Malcolm Gunter Foundation.
“We have already succeeded in buying some equipment for Motor Neurone Disease sufferers in the area and in helping to support the families of sufferers alongside Weston Hospicecare.
“The TRYathlon is another opportunity to leverage the huge goodwill felt towards Malcolm and his family by bringing people together for this fantastic cause. We are delighted that Colliers International has chosen to support us this year and every penny raised will go to those who need it most.”
