A popular Midlands lawyer who was instrumental in establishing the Black Country Chamber of Commerce is retiring after 40 years at Black Country law firm George Green LLP.
Richard Cliff qualified as a solicitor in 1971, joining George Green in 1972 before rising through the ranks to become a partner in the corporate services team. A prominent member of the Black Country business community, he has vast experience in the fields of corporate and commercial law, advising numerous businesses on deal-making activity, banking and finance matters, and leaves the firm on 17 August.
Commenting on his career, Richard said: “I’ve truly enjoyed my time at George Green and have particularly valued the opportunity to work closely with individual businesses and play an active role in the local business community.
“The Black Country is a great place to work; renowned for its hard-working culture, sense of humour and straight-talking people. I’ve made some good friends throughout my time at the firm and, while I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and moving to the south of France, I will miss them all.”
Paul Bennett, senior partner at George Green and current chairman of Black Country Chamber of Commerce, added: “Richard has made a tremendous impact, both on the firm and the wider Midlands business community. His legal expertise and understanding of the local economy is second to none and we will all miss his sound advice and good humour.
“I’d like to thank Richard for all his support during my time at the firm and for his dedication to the firm and wider region. I’m sure his colleagues and friends across the industry will join me in wishing him all the best as he embarks on this new and exciting chapter in his life.”
George Green staff honoured Richard’s 40-year contribution during a special tribute at the firm’s annual summer party, which included a rendition of ‘So long, farewell’ from The Sound of Music by the firm’s partners and a staff song and dance number to Kool & The Gang’s ‘Celebration’.
