The boss of a fire safety company in Telford has scooped a contract with the world’s fifth largest tyre manufacturer Pirelli.
Barry Mould, managing director of Shires Fire and Safety, said his team would be delivering and servicing all of the fire extinguishers and hose reels for all of Pirelli’s sites in the UK. The contract is worth more than £10,000.
Mr Mould, who set up his company during the deep recession of 1990, said members of his 18-strong team of engineers would be working at the sites in Dittcott, Carlisle and Burton-on-Trent to ensure all of Pirelli’s fire equipment met all laws and regulations and would also be re-filling and servicing the extinguishers regularly.
Mr Mould, who has been elected onto the committee of the industry governing body Independent Fire Engineering and Distributors Association, said fire safety was vital in any industry but especially prevalent in an industry involving such a highly flammable product such as a tyre.
“We are ecstatic to have won such an important contract with Pirelli. The company has 22 tyre manufacturing facilities on five continents and employs 34,000 people so who knows where this UK based contract could lead,” Mr Mould said.
“My engineers excelled in their professionalism and expertise when they first met the bosses of Pirelli which led to the contract success.
“This is just one of many national contracts we hold but we also service the smallest of businesses in the local area which may just have one extinguisher or hose reel.
“This shows our ability to meet the demands of every customer regardless of size or needs.”
Mr Mould’s company was based at the Business Development Centre on Stafford Park for 17 years before moving to their current depot at Queensway Link Industrial Park on Stafford Park 17.
The team of fully qualified and licensed engineers provide fire protection and emergency systems, along with fire prevention and security advice.
They offer annual servicing of fire extinguishers, fire alarms and emergency lighting.
Pirelli is one of the leading manufacturers of high-end and performance tyres and is the single tyre manufacturer for Formula 1 for the 2011-2013 championship seasons and for the World Superbike Championship.
