Stockport Council has released impressive new animations of the transport hub being developed at the centre of the town.
The walk-through CGIs, revealed at the MIPIM property convention in Cannes, France, show how the new interchange will provide passengers with first class facilities along with a huge new landscaped park to be enjoyed by visitors and residents.
The £50m Interchange will be completed by 2022 and will further boost Stockport’s position as one of the best-connected town centres in the North-west.
The 10,000 sqm bus interchange will be covered by a remarkable 2-acre landscaped park and connected to new riverside public realm. A new striking 180m pedestrian and cycle bridge will link the new interchange to the railway station and the town’s new commercial hub, Stockport Exchange
Pam Smith, Chief Executive, Stockport Council, said: “The new Transport Interchange is part of an ambitious £1bn investment by the council and its partners which is making Stockport an even better place in which to live, work, play and connect.
“We are bringing more green space to Stockport town centre for everyone to enjoy – the park will help Stockport Town Centre become Greater Manchester’s newest and greenest affordable urban neighbourhood.
“We are really excited about the next chapter in our ambitious journey which focuses on improving connectivity and introducing over 3,000 new homes to the town centre.”
Stephen Gillham, Principal, BDP, lead designer on the Transport Interchange, said: “The ground-breaking design supports the urban neighbourhood vision and is a key element of the town’s transformation.
