Cushman & Wakefield has appointed Richard Murphy as Head of its Cardiff Office, which delivers real estate services across South Wales.
He succeeds Rhys James, who performed the role for 15 years and who will now focus fully on advising occupier, owner and developer clients as Partner, Commercial Agency & Development.
Murphy, who will lead a team of more than 25 staff based at the firm’s Dumfries Place office, is a senior figure in both Cushman & Wakefield’s Valuation & Advisory team and its national Corporate Recovery & Restructuring business. He first joined DTZ, which merged with Cushman & Wakefield in 2015, in 1994. Outside work, he has been involved for many years in the charitable sector, latterly specifically in relation to the challenges of city centre homelessness.
Richard Murphy, Head of Cardiff, Cushman & Wakefield, said: “As one of Europe’s fastest-growing capital cities, Cardiff has been transformed in recent years and attracted a new wave of occupiers and investors. The speed of growth in the Cardiff City Region and similar impetus throughout South Wales, is also driving a need for creative solutions to deliver increased housing provision. We are experiencing strong demand from clients for the market-leading insight and breadth of service which we bring to Wales as part of a global business. I’m delighted to be taking on the leadership of a highly motivated and talented team advising clients across South Wales.”
Jon Leedham, Head of Business Space Regions, Cushman & Wakefield, said: “Our Cardiff office is a key part of our regional UK network, delivering services right across South Wales. I’d like to thank Rhys for leading the team with distinction for many years. He will continue as a senior figure in the team, supporting Richard and ensuring we and our clients capitalise on the momentum in the local market.”
George Roberts, Head of UK & Ireland, Cushman & Wakefield, said: “Ensuring we have the right people leading our teams is an important part of our mission to put our clients at the centre of what’s next. Richard is an experienced leader, highly-regarded by clients and colleagues alike, who will make the role his own.”
Along with its Cardiff office, Cushman & Wakefield’s UK office network includes Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester and Newcastle.
