A £5million university building project is on target to be completed in the autumn, say contractors Clegg Construction.
After completing phase one of the project at Aston University in Birmingham last year, Clegg Construction is now more than a third of the way through phases two and three and is on course to complete the whole project by October this year.
Clegg Construction’s work will see the creation of five brand new laboratories and office accommodation in the main campus building at Aston University, Birmingham.
Simon Blackburn, managing director at Clegg Construction, said: “We’re delighted with the excellent progress which has been made on this project. It has been a challenging scheme as we’ve had to ensure services remain as examinations and teaching have continued while the work has been taking place on site.
“Phase one of the project was really well-received and we’ve built up a successful relationship with Aston University, who have been an excellent client to work for. This is a state-of-the-art development and the completion of phases two and three will give the facilities in the main campus a fresh new look,” Simon added.
Phase one largely involved preparatory work on site, followed by the extensive removals and demolition of internal spaces which are taking place as part of phase two, with phase three seeing the final refurbishments and the laboratories made live.
The first of the five laboratories is due to be completed in August and will be ready for use from then onwards, with all five laboratories to be finished by October.
This is not the first university project Clegg Construction has been involved in and they are establishing a reputation as experts in education buildings.
Clegg Construction completed the £6 million extensive refurbishment project at the Gisbert Kapp building at the University of Birmingham. This project received a ‘highly commended’ award from Birmingham City Building Control.
Clegg Construction’s current projects include the pioneering Energy Technologies Building at the University of Nottingham. The new £6 million building will include the very latest environmentally friendly features to conserve energy and will be carbon neutral.
