Some of Cardiff’s most vulnerable homeless people are set for an “unforgettable” Christmas thanks to 12 of the city’s leading law firms.
Rough sleepers who are supported by Cardiff-based homelessness charity the Huggard Centre will benefit from a newly launched charitable initiative from expert legal firm CJCH Solicitors this December.
The firm, which offers specialist legal advice in areas including family, childcare, criminal, and mental health law, has established the 12 Days of Christmas scheme aiming to support numerous homeless people during the colder festive period.
As part of the fundraising scheme CJCH will bring together 12 firms including, Grech Gooden, Vale Solicitors, Pure Law, Shanahans, Crowley & Company Solicitors, De Maids, McSorley Lewis, Davies & Jones, Temple Chambers (Barristers), and M & M Solicitors, which have already signed up and will each donate £250 a day to the charitable centre from December 13th to the 24th.
The donations, which will reach £3,000 in total, will support the charity’s Angel for a Day initiative and enable the Huggard Centre to support the needs of every person using its services for each day of the 12 days before Christmas.
And with daily costs covered thanks to the generosity of the firms, the Cardiff charity can reallocate its funding towards other valuable services throughout the festive season.
Founder of the 12 Days of Christmas scheme and partner at CJCH Solicitors Jacqui Seal, said she is thrilled to be supporting the centre and passionate about making a difference in the lives of Cardiff’s homeless community.
She said: “I was previously with the Crown Prosecution Services, but it was really since becoming a defence solicitor and acting for people who use the Huggard Centre that I becameall too aware of the devastating impact homelessness can have on individuals throughout our communities.
“I have long been passionate about supporting those who are forced into living on our streets to help them overcome their difficulties and find a path out of homelessness.
“As such, I have worked extensively with groups across the Cardiff community, drawing on my legal expertise, to support them to find a solution.
“I am delighted to have been able to establish this initiative, which supports some of our community’s most vulnerable people at this crucial time of year. For many of us it’s easy to overlook the difficulties faced by others throughout Christmas, but I felt it was vital that we as a business community harnessed our collective influence and abilities to really make a difference this year. These firms who have joined in on the initiative are brilliant, and have been endlessly helpful in getting this off the ground.
“We are thrilled to be supporting the work of the Huggard Centre, and hope that our donation can help to deliver an unforgettable Christmas to some of society’s most vulnerable people.”
