Property consultants Alder King and JLL have let the two largest remaining units at Barnwood Point in Gloucester to Gloucestershire Training Group (GTG) for a new apprentice training centre.
The importance of the new centre was underlined when local MP Richard Graham invited the Cities Minister, the Rt Hon Greg Clark to tour the facility.
The two units will provide a total of 21,484 sq ft (1,995 sq m) of accommodation which will be fitted out as classrooms, engineering workshops, training areas and offices for the Training Group ready for the new academic year in September.
GTG provides cost-effective training in mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering disciplines to meet the needs of local employers in the engineering and manufacturing sector in Gloucestershire.
The Group’s chief executive officer Linsey Temple explains: “These two units give us a clean slate on which to develop the perfect specialist training environment. We are now embarking on a major fit-out to ensure everything is ready in time for September.”
Richard Graham MP stresses the importance of the new facility: “GTG’s move to better accommodation will enable this independent training provider to maximize its contribution to the local economy – I regard the expansion of GTG’s training capacity as one of the most important goals for the city’s skills agenda.”
Neil Scott, director at Croudace Properties, said: “Barnwood Point’s convenient location on the A417 make it the perfect location for a training centre. It is easily accessible for students wherever they are in the county and comes with excellent car parking onsite.”
Adrian Rowley, partner at Alder King, adds that only two units now remain available at Barnwood Point.
“The scheme has proved extremely successful with high quality flexible accommodation in a very prominent location,” he says. “Unit 2.2 offers 7,102 sq ft (659.8 sq m) while Unit 2.4 is marginally smaller at 6,586 sq ft (611.8 sq m). We’re confident that these too will soon be occupied.”
