National retail and leisure commercial property agent, Box Property, has secured national gym operator PureGym a third premises at Castle Marina Retail Park in Nottingham.
Set to open in the New Year, the new 16,000 sq ft gym will occupy part of what was formerly the PC World store and with its two other branches in Basford and Beeston, the new gym will service clientele living and working within the south of the city.
With circa one million members, PureGym is Britain’s largest gym membership brand offering no-contract, 24-hour, affordable fitness at its 230+ clubs across the UK. The Leeds-based chain has an ambitious growth strategy with plans to have 300 gyms by 2020.
Box Property founders Ben Tebbutt and Frankie Labbate began working with Pure Gym to secure its third premises in Nottingham after the fitness club had been unsuccessful in finding a suitable site itself.
Using local market expertise, Box Property unlocked the Castle Marina Retail Park opportunity and managed to secure an off-market deal for part of the former PC World unit which has been vacant for some time.
Frankie Labbate commented: “PureGym is an impressive and innovative brand which is known for its quality fitness clubs across the country and we are proud to be working with the brand on its expansion plans.
“Providing accessible and affordable fitness for everyone in good locations is what PureGym is all about and our client’s brand, product and vision is the reason the company is the market leader in the UK and the first British gym chain to gain one million members.
“PureGym approached us to secure its long-standing requirement for the south side of the city and using our network of industry contacts, expertise and market knowledge we were able to deliver the perfect result. Although there were opportunities in the city centre, with increasing vacancy rates, and developments forthcoming in the future the market is somewhat saturated with budget gym operators thus we opted to secure the PC world site with free parking on the fringe of the city centre.
“Castle Marina Retail Park has always been a strong and vibrant shopping destination and the new gym will be ideally positioned to benefit from the footfall and passing traffic of shoppers. It will serve the area south of Nottingham city centre well with so many offices and businesses located nearby. I think the city as a whole will be glad to see the back of the tired, old and empty PC World building and will welcome a brand-new affordable gym in its place.”
Duncan Costin, Pure Gym property director said: “PureGym are delighted to be adding a third site in Nottingham which will serve the local working population and the nearby surrounding residents.
“Affordable health and fitness should be easily accessible to all and we are confident that our new site is ideally placed to serve a significant proportion of the office and residential population of the city that we’re not currently reaching.
“We’d been actively seeking premises in this area for some time and thanks to the guys at Box Property we finally found the perfect spot.”
In addition to PureGym, Box Property works with an array of local and national brands including The Cods Scallops, Clean Cut Kitchen, Bunk Bar, West Cornwall Pasty Company, Universal Works, 200 Degrees, Bar Iberico and Ideal Care Homes.
