Nottingham based integrated engineering consultancy Millward has reached its milestone twenty fifth birthday.
The company provides civil, structural, environmental, geotechnical, highways, infrastructure, and flood risk and drainage design services to a wide range of clients. It operates nationally across a variety of sectors including industrial, retail, leisure, residential, retirement living and care, student accommodation, commercial, public sector and education.
Established in 1993 by Terry Millward, today the company is run by his daughter Nicola Millward who is managing director and sole director and shareholder of the business.
Nicola joined the company in 2003, moving from London where she was working in financial services marketing. At the time she had no experience in construction or engineering or any technical expertise, so spent years shadowing her father and learning about what the company did and how it fitted in within the industry.
She took over the reins of the business and bought it from her father when he retired in 2010.
This was the start of the recession so it was a challenging time. Nicola’s strategy was to simply survive however she recruited additional people and succeeded in securing repeat work from clients, in addition to gaining new ones.
Today the business employs 17 people and has an annual turnover of £1.5million. It is poised for further growth too and is looking to recruit people into its Structures team. The company boasts exceptionally high staff retention, thanks to being able to couple giving people the opportunity to work on exciting and diverse projects with a genuine commitment to ensuring the team is a happy one.
Over the years Nicola has played an active role in the local community. She was invited to become a board member of Nottingham Regeneration Ltd and established the Nottingham Women in Construction network which is still going strong today. She has also been a school governor and been involved in numerous charity projects. Nicola and several of the Millward team recently completed the Robin Hood Half marathon, raising over £2,000 for Hayward House.
Commenting about the company’s twenty fifth anniversary and her fifteen years with the business, Nicola said: “I am delighted that Millward has reached this significant milestone in the company’s history and my own personal milestone of being with the company for fifteen years including eight years at the helm. I would like to thank all the dedicated Millward team as well as our clients for their support over the years.”
“We have a long history of retaining clients and are proud of the projects that we have completed for them and the variety too,” added Nicola. “At the heart of the business is a genuine commitment to delivering an exceptional service, with our team able to solve complex challenges and add value through innovative solutions.”
To celebrate its twenty fifth anniversary, Millward is the main sponsor of Hot Property, an annual charity event at which musicians and singers from East Midlands property and construction firms perform and will be inviting clients and guests to the event.
