Australian stationery and gifting retailer Typo has signed up for new stores at three intu shopping centres as part of its expansion across the UK.
They include a 1,250 sq ft unit at intu Watford that will launch as intu Watford expands by 400,000 sq ft and introduces even more new retail and leisure brands for its prosperous catchment population.
The opening at intu Watford follows the arrival of Typo at intu Merry Hill earlier this month within a 935 sq ft unit there. The West Midlands shopping destination is set to undergo its own major extension as part of a £100 million investment by intu to introduce more restaurants and an on-site cinema, and recently welcomed one of Next’s biggest sites in the country.
A third, 1,114 sq ft store will open at intu Eldon Square in October, placing Typo at the heart of Newcastle city centre.
The Australian brand began opening bricks-and-mortar stores in the UK in December 2016 following strong demand on its online platform, and currently has eight across the country. There are a further 200 stores across 15 countries, each selling Typo’s eclectic range of everyday items with a twist including stationery, novelty gifts and cards, décor as well as travel and tech accessories.
Typo’s UK brand manager Sally Howard, commented: “We are thrilled to be expanding our UK footprint through the opening of the intu Watford, intu Eldon Square and intu Merry Hill stores. We always strive to provide our customers with the best possible shopping experience whether that is online or through our bricks and mortar stores. That is why it is great to be able to offer our UK customers even more locations where they can shop the Typo brand, and in shopping centres that are undergoing such exciting transformations and focusing on providing shoppers with a real day out experience.”
Julian Wilkinson, asset management director, commented: “intu’s portfolio of the most popular shopping destinations means we are well placed to help brands like Typo expand across the UK. Our investment in centres like intu Watford, intu Merry Hill and Eldon Square is clearly paying off with more and more brands selecting the centres as the right locations to thrive within new areas of the country.”
Accessories brand Accessorize is also opening a new store at intu Watford, taking a new 1,700 sq ft unit that is more than triple the size of its previous location at the centre. Debenhams, Jack Wills and Superdry are among retailers to be opening within the centre’s 400,000 sq ft extension this autumn which will place Watford in CACI’s top 20 retail destination ranking alongside Edinburgh and Bristol and bring a Cineworld multiplex, Hollywood Bowl and 11 new restaurants to the town centre.
