Midlands partners and staff at national audit, tax and advisory firm Crowe Clark Whitehill, as usual ahead of the game, have already contested their own version of the Olympics.
Held at Walsall Cricket Club, which the firm sponsors, the event was an opportunity for staff to have a fun day out (yes, contrary to reports, accountants do occasionally let their hair down!).
Around 80 took part including family members.
Known as the annual “Chris Wilcox Memorial” event, after their IT manager, who passed away suddenly in 2006, this year’s theme was based on the Olympics.
Four teams were selected by home postcode – Bears (Warwickshire), Pears (Worcestershire), Knots (Staffordshire) and Chainmakers (Black Country).
Each team battled it out in quick cricket, rounders, garden darts, bowling, skittles, pool, beer mat flipping and zebra throwing – hurling a toy zebra as far as you can, a bit like “welly wanging” but in black and white…. and it’s a zebra, not a boot!
Competition was reported to be fierce and ended in a tie between the Bears and Pears, which was resolved by a “rock-paper-scissors” play-off rather than the dreaded penalty shoot-out. Football authorities take note.
The Pears emerged as victors!
