Harris Lamb has enhanced its Environmental team with the appointment of a graduate ecologist.
The property consultancy established the department in February this year, tasking Dr Holly Smith with spearheading the team and developing it.
The past six months have seen instructions for the department increase, and Miles Haslam has now joined the team to help manage its workload, which sees it conduct surveys and offer advice on a wide range of ecological issues throughout the UK.
Holly said: “The response to the new department has been phenomenal. We’ve been inundated with requests from new and existing clients to advise on site suitability, risks to wildlife, and to undertake surveys for protected species including great crested newts and bats. The need to develop the team was essential, and Miles has proved an asset already.
“He initially contacted us about a work placement post-graduation from Hull University at the beginning of the summer, and has proved himself an enthusiastic addition to the team. His interest and passion for the environmental sector is exemplary and I’m delighted to have him working alongside the team.”
Miles said: “I’ve grown up with an interest in environmental sciences and the natural world, leading to me studying biology at university and taking up scuba diving, where my passion for marine life has seen me advance to the point of qualifying as a rescue diver. I wanted to pursue a career which allowed me to use my love of nature and the environmental world.
“This position is an exciting opportunity to be part of a newly-formed and fast-growing department in a sector that looks likely to continue developing in the coming decades.
“I’ll be working on a wide range of ecological and environmental planning aspects for varying projects, with a personal goal to achieve chartered status once I have accumulated enough experience and knowledge with the help of my colleagues. The Harris Lamb team has already been supportive in welcoming me on board and I’ve no doubt they’ll continue to add to my experience and help me qualify.”
