Peel Lifestyle Outlets has announced the appointment of leading property agent Savills to its planned £100m mixed-use development at Glasgow Harbour as moves to rejuvenate the Clyde waterfront gather pace.
The 350,000 sq ft Lifestyle Outlets Glasgow Harbour is the next phase of the city’s waterfront regeneration project and aims to create a major new leisure destination on the banks of the Clyde, as well as thousands of associated retail and construction jobs.
The appointment of Savills and Johnstone Property, a niche retail adviser, follows the recent submission of an Approval of Matters Specified in Condition planning application for the transformational mixed-use development.
Lifestyle Outlets Glasgow Harbour is set to include over 100 retail stores, 20 restaurants and cafes, a waterfront promenade, a new state of the art multiplex cinema, gym, family leisure facilities, public squares plus major event space.
With a strong focus on leisure, the development will further enhance the already strong appeal of the west end of the city’s waterfront area which is already home to popular visitor attractions such as the SSE Hydro, Glasgow Science Centre, the Riverside Museum and The Clydeside Distillery.
Adrian Wright, leasing director, Lifestyle Outlets, said: “Lifestyle Outlets Glasgow Harbour will create a real destination of choice for the city and its tourist visitors, offering an excellent mix of leisure and entertainment underpinned by an exciting retail offering.
“With £100m being invested and thousands of crucial construction and retail jobs created, the project will further enhance the city’s waterfront and breathe new life into a key gap site and into the wider city.
“The specialist skills, knowledge and expertise which the team at Savills will bring to the development will be invaluable as we move forward with our plans for a project which will transform Glasgow’s waterfront.”
Savills’ Head of National Retail, Stuart Moncur said: “The prospect of continuing the Lifestyle Outlets success story and its exciting future development plans is a definite driver for delivering success for the business.
“As shopping habits continue to change and new trends evolve, the popularity of lifestyle outlets which not only offer discounted prices, but an all-encompassing experience, will continue to thrive. The west coast of Scotland and specifically Glasgow is the ideal location to provide this offer and we’re delighted to be part of the team to delivery this outstanding destination.”
It is estimated that, once complete, the Glasgow Harbour Lifestyle Outlet could generate gross GVA of around £45 million per annum for Glasgow’s economy. The development will create much-needed employment during construction and deliver a further 2,000 retail and leisure jobs when complete in 2021, according to a recent report by Amion Consulting, an economic impact consultancy. The report also says the scheme has potential to generate up to 5 million additional visits per year, generating further economic benefit.
Planning Permission in Principal was granted in 2008 to rejuvenate the 74-acre site, which is located within the Clyde Waterfront Regeneration Programme. An Approval of Matters Specified in Condition planning application has been submitted by Glasgow Harbour Ltd on behalf of Peel Lifestyle Outlets – a division of Peel Land and Property Group – a specialist in delivering leisure, retail and activity-focused destinations across the UK
The first phase of the Glasgow Harbour masterplan was completed by Peel Group in 2008 and involved the construction of 1100 apartments on the site of the former Meadowside Granary, which was demolished in 2002. The Glasgow Harbour Masterplan involves a substantial investment in infrastructure, the creation of hundreds of waterfront homes, retail and leisure opportunities, as well as a commercial district.
Savills and Johnstone Property are the retained leasing agents for Glasgow Harbour Lifestyle Outlet.
