Leading Welsh law firm, NewLaw, has selected Tenovus as its charity of the year and plans to raise £25,000 over the next 12 months to support one of the charity’s cancer support advisers.
These advisers provide financial support, counselling, debt advice and a social work service to anyone affected by cancer, be they a patient, family member or carer.
NewLaw has also donated money to Tenovus for law books which will enable the advisers to access to the correct legal information in relation to benefits including social security and tax credits.
Helen Molyneux, chief executive of NewLaw, said: “Through the work we do for the victims of exposure to asbestos and other cancer causing agents, we understand the distress and needs of cancer victims all too well. We see at first hand the difference Tenovus makes to our clients and other cancer patients and know that it is invaluable. We are therefore delighted to have chosen Tenovus as our Charity of the Year, particularly as they are a Welsh based charity.”
NewLaw has raised over £50,000 for its nominated charities over the last two years. NewLaw has kicked off its fundraising efforts with a walk up Penyfan and is now making plans for future events including a 30 mile sponsored walk from its offices in Cardiff, culminating in its annual charity ‘Pretty in Pink’ Ball which will take place in October.
Claudia McVie, Chief executive of Tenovus said: “We are absolutely thrilled NewLaw have chosen Tenovus to be their charity of the year. Our cancer support advisers are an essential cog in the wheel of the charity and work in the heart of the community helping those who need it most. With this support we will ensure cancer patients all across Wales receive the treatment they deserve.”
