KFC investing £2 million in new Redditch drive-thru

Kentucky Fried Chicken is to launch a major new drive-thru outlet in Redditch.

The move will change the face of the town, seeing the demolition of MacLellan House on Clews Road.

And the deal has been put together by business property agents John Truslove who advised on the sale.

The site purchase and KFC drive-thru construction represents an investment in excess of £2 million.

A spokesman for the giant US-based corporation said it was an ideal area for a new KFC.

“We think it is an excellent and exciting location and a great opportunity. This will be a significant new facility for Redditch and we are confident it will attract customers.

“Redditch is full of fast growing businesses, its residents tend to have a fast, all action lifestyle … put fast food into the equation and you have the perfect combination.”

He added: “We have obtained planning permission for a drive-thru and aim to make a start soon on knocking down MacLellan House.

“We are talking about a significant investment along with job opportunities for Redditch people.”

Mr Truslove said: “A KFC drive through is a terrific development for the town.

“I am sure residents and workers will find it exceptionally convenient and it will very much complement the town’s other leisure facilities.

“We wish KFC all success with the new venture.”

MacLellan House is a detached headquarters building of 12,328 sq ft. It was on the market with an asking price of £995,000 plus VAT.

Built in the late 1990s, it is situated within a predominantly office-based business park, is at its entrance and highly prominent. It forms part of a generally larger office area and is one of the bigger buildings on the scheme.

KFC said demolition work was likely to commence in the late summer. The planned opening date is March 2013 but the group said, if possible, it would bring this forward.

KFC Corporation, based in Louisville, Kentucky, is the world’s most popular chicken restaurant chain.
