Whitbread has moved on site at Cubex Land’s Morlands Enterprise Park in Glastonbury to start building a new 60 bedroom Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre scheme following receipt of detailed planning permission.
The hotel and pub/restaurant is set to become a new landmark on the A39 road frontage and a great asset for the town and other occupiers on Morlands Enterprise Park. Both facilities are programmed to open for business in Spring 2013 well in advance of the next Glastonbury Festival.
Cubex has also announced the submission of a detailed planning application for a proposed new 8,000 sq ft Howdens trade counter and a further 7,500 sq ft terrace of three trade units adjacent to the existing Screwfix premises in the heart of the scheme. Howdens, who operate a chain of over 500 specialist timber depots across the UK, have signed an agreement to take a new 15 year lease on completion of the building. The Glastonbury branch will become a key site for the south west region.
After purchase of the 20 acre opportunity from the South West RDA, Cubex has now completed all infrastructure works to make the site ready for immediate commercial development and further opportunities now exist for local businesses to grab a prominent position on the town’s principal employment park. New units can be made available for sale or purchase on a design and build basis.
Paul Hobbs, director at independent commercial property adviser GVA, agents for Cubex Land, comments “This is a great opportunity for the town and the wider area to encourage growth and generate the long promised new employment. The remaining land is somewhat a clean sheet for occupiers to create their own building solutions and we hope that the ‘can–do’ attitude from Cubex will generate further successes in due course. With the forthcoming development of a new Tesco store adjacent to Morlands and the popularity of the nearby Clarks Factory Village at Street, the location can only go from strength to strength now these deals are done.
“In addition to the 7,500 sq ft of proposed trade units we now have just three acres of serviced land left for development.”
