A 23,600 sq ft (2,192 sq m) warehouse with a 20,000 sq ft (1,858 sq m) mezzanine floor in Peterborough’s Woodston Industrial area has been sold through agent Barker Storey Matthews to a city-based family firm whose turnover has almost trebled in the past six years.
The warehouse at 25 Wainman Road will give additional depot storage space to J Huggins & Sons Ltd whose Peterborough headquarters is on Carr Road Industrial Estate in the city, from where it has just recruited 20 new staff and is actively seeking to add more to the firm’s headcount.
The specialist automotive installation firm traces its Peterborough origins back to 1927 when it was established by the grandfather of the current managing director, Keith Huggins.
Three generations later, the family firm trades as National Windscreens and has over 18 branches across England spanning an area from Colchester to the North Yorkshire Moors and the Lake District to the Wirral.
In almost trebling turnover in the past six years to a current level of £15 million, the company was seeking additional warehouse accommodation in Peterborough to meet its ongoing business growth.
Keith Huggins, managing director, explains “Peterborough is so well served for excellent road links for onward distribution. Originating as a family firm here, we wanted additional depot premises in the city.
“We have found them at 25 Wainman Road – which, I am advised by Barker Storey Matthews, is a rare freehold opportunity in an active industrial property market.”
Barker Storey Matthews was the sole agent under instruction in the sale of the freehold of 25 Wainman Road, Woodston and confirms that the price achieved on sale was close to the quoted price of £950,000.
