Brewin Dolphin has promoted Andrew Lewis, of its Cardiff office, to Divisional Director.
Mr Lewis, originally from Swansea, has been with the wealth management firm since 2003 following a successful career as a rugby player, representing Cardiff RFC, Cardiff Blues and Wales where he gained 29 caps.
Starting as a trainee, Andrew has quickly progressed through the ranks, achieving professional qualifications along the way including Certificates in Securities and Derivatives, Investment Management and a Diploma in Private Client Investment Advice from the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
He now manages a team of nine that work with Financial Advisers to provide discretionary fund management and alternative investment solutions for their clients. This area of work has grown in recent years as many IFAs look to outsource their investment duties ahead of the implementation of the Retail Distribution Review (RDR) in January 2013 and Brewin Dolphin was recently named advisers’ most used discretionary fund manager according to a survey of 345 advisers by Defaqto.
Andrew’s promotion from Assistant Director to Divisional Director is made in recognition of his achievements in leading and growing his team and the contribution he has made to Brewin Dolphin over the past seven years.
On his promotion, Andrew said: “I feel that the experiences I faced in meeting my ambition to play rugby for Wales have greatly influenced the approach I have taken to achieving my promotion to Divisional Director at Brewin Dolphin. When I started seven years ago, this was a new industry for me, but through the support of my colleagues and the training I have received at Brewin Dolphin, I have been able to progress quickly. I am grateful to all who have helped me in my career to date and look forward to working with my fellow divisional directors to continue the Cardiff office’s growth.”
David Myrddin-Evans, head of the Cardiff office, said: “Andrew’s promotion is testament to the hard work he has put in to quickly develop his career at Brewin Dolphin, following his retirement from rugby. He has built up a strong team and equally strong relations with his clients. This has resulted in our work with Financial Advisers in the area growing significantly.
“We are finding that more and more IFAs are outsourcing all or part of client investment management, a trend that is set to increase in the run-up to the RDR and Andrew’s experience means that he is well placed to handle this growing demand. His promotion is very well deserved and I am confident that his career will continue to go from strength to strength.”
Andrew joins six other divisional directors at the Cardiff office of the firm that celebrates its 250th anniversary this year. Following growth in recent years, the office moved to new headquarters at 5 Callaghan Square at the end of last year and together with the Swansea office now manages over £680m.
