School plans submitted by Nottingham based CPMG Architects have been approved to build a new secondary school and sixth form centre for The Suthers School in Fernwood, Newark on Trent.
Newark and Sherwood District Council has approved designs for the Nova Education Trust’s three-storey school, to be built on Fernwood Business Park.
At full capacity, the new building is set to hold 600 secondary students and 230 sixth form pupils. The 7220 square metre building covers three floors and has a traditional departmental structure focused around clustered hall spaces and centralised staff workrooms. There are sports facilities for community use, staff pastoral offices, a distinct Student Support Suite and a combined library and sixth form.
Martin Ford, associate group leader for CPMG Architects said: “We’re really proud to be working on another project with main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland, to develop a new school and sixth form centre with state-of-the-art facilities.
“Similar to our other successfully designed schools, we will be using Bowmer and Kirkland’s ‘Configure Standard Design’ framework, which will deliver an exemplary teaching environment fully aligned with the Education Skills Funding Agency’s aspirations.
Nick Gregory, director for CPMG Architects said: “We’re pleased to be developing our expanding portfolio of educational buildings with this exciting new project. It is one of many educational facilities we’re currently delivering to help improve the learning environments for people of all ages.”
Bowmer & Kirkland regional director, Steve Chambers, said: “We have worked in the education sector for many years, but it is always very satisfying to build a new school which will offer improved facilities and help raise aspirations for a great many young people.”
The new development is due to start on site on 18 June 2018 and is set to be completed by 29 July 2019.
The project team for The Suthers School is Bowmer & Kirkland, main contractor, Curtins, structural and civil engineers, Couch Perry Wilkes, mechanical and electrical consultants, Ares, landscape architects.
