The purchase of the freehold of premises in a prominent location in the Cambridgeshire market town of Ramsey sees a firm of solicitors blend the best of old and new in offering professional legal services.
That’s the view of commercial property agent, Barker Storey Matthews who acted on behalf of the vendor in the private sale of 3-5 Great Whyte, Ramsey to its new owners – the town’s leading solicitors, Serjeant & Son who moved in to the three storey, double fronted 1,580 sq ft premises recently.
Serjeant & Son was established in 1790 and, most recently, had been based in premises on the High Street in Ramsey for a number of years. Having outgrown these offices and, in seeking a more prominent location, the practice’s partners, Wanda Szczygiel and Kristine Burton, wanted an impressive, traditional property that would suit a fit-out and makeover in support of modern working methods and clients’ expectations of a professional legal practice.
As Wanda Szczygiel explains, this proved to be the property at 3-5 Great Whyte in the town. She says, “The cost of upgrading our old offices in the High Street was too prohibitive. With a practice headcount totalling ten, it was just not realistic to think we could have a programme of works while still open for business. We needed to be able to close the door on the High Street on a Friday evening and open for business in our new office on a Monday morning.
“In purchasing our new premises on Great Whyte, we were able to give a continuity of service to clients from High Street while we fitted-out our new offices.
“We hope clients old and new will, like us, feel that our new offices best represent the ethos of Serjeant & Son Solictors. We’ve brought the firm’s heritage and traditional values with us in the look of the building at Great Whyte but we are offering them from an office and meeting facilities more in keeping with the expectation of today’s legal professional practice.”
Barker Storey Matthews was the sole agent under instruction in the sale of the freehold of 3-5 Great Whyte, Ramsey.
