Southampton and Portsmouth are among eight cities showing above average tech employment, according to the annual Tech Nation report.
Responding to the report, Nella Pang, associate director at property consultancy JLL in Southampton, said: “It’s no surprise that tech companies are targeting Southampton and Portsmouth for growth. Both Southampton and Portsmouth universities – with their own specialisms in key areas of cutting-edge technology – provide high quality talent locally, with many students staying on the South Coast after graduation to take advantage of the balanced lifestyle it offers.
“With its close links to London, the South Coast offers a viable but low-cost alternative to the capital for tech businesses in need of office space, as well as providing more supply and therefore more options to choose from. We are seeing office investors in the region adapting their business models to allow for flexible floor areas, collaborative working areas and flexible lease terms to meet this growing demand.”
