A Grade II listed building in Bristol city centre will be returned to its former glory when it is given new lease of life by property developer Urban Creation.
Urban Creation bought 76 Park Street, which was previously entirely occupied by Moss Bros, last year. The Bristol-based developer has now received planning consent to transform the upper parts of the 4,500 sq ft building into smart new student apartments and to give the ground floor and basement commercial space a major refurbishment.
The renovation will see careful attention paid to the preservation of the building’s existing original character and period features, whilst also reinstating historic features that have been lost over the decades, partly due to severe damage to the property during the Second World War.
The 1970s shop front will be reconstructed to reinstate its original style with a characterful timber frontage and panelled sash windows, while the exterior paintwork on Park Street Avenue will be stripped off to reveal the stone and red brick beneath. Meanwhile, the windows at the rear and the side of the building will be unblocked and the original side entrance will be re-opened.
Jonathan Brecknell, director and owner of Urban Creation, which develops and manages high quality property developments, explains: “We are very much looking forward to bringing to the fore the rich heritage of this Grade II listed property with a more engaging street frontage and original-style features throughout.
“We know that there is plenty of demand from both UK and international students who are after a unique place to live combining stylish interiors with a touch of historic grandeur, and this property can certainly deliver on this front, as well as offering a fantastic location on vibrant Park Street.”
The property will be transformed into six spacious one-bed student apartments, which will include dishwashers and en-suite shower rooms, with the ground floor and basement providing commercial space. The new apartments at 76 Park Street are expected to be ready for occupation from mid 2019.
The building is located on Park Street with its shops, cafes and restaurants and the open green spaces of Brandon Hill right on its doorstep. Bristol University, the Clifton Triangle and the city’s historic harbourside are just a stone’s throw away.
Urban Creation is also behind boutique student accommodation recently created at Charlotte’s Rise on Charlotte Street in Clifton, and The Manor House, off St Michael’s Hill, by the University of Bristol campus. Both are beautiful, historic properties, whose character and charm have been preserved as part of the renovation projects.
The property company also launched a new venture last year, Beech House, offering boutique serviced apartments in Clifton for those visiting the city for business or pleasure.
