The long-awaited redevelopment of the Palm Court Hotel site in Torquay has moved a step closer following the acquisition of the site by Palm Court (Torquay) Limited, represented by property consultants Alder King.
The Victorian seafront hotel overlooking Torquay’s main beach was damaged by fire in December 2010. Palm Court (Torquay) Limited has now purchased the site and achieved planning consent for the redevelopment of the entire site as a landmark restaurant and residential complex.
The Art Deco-style development, known as Abbey Crescent, will feature four new restaurants with outside seating, ranging from 1,000 sq ft to 2,960 sq ft. These can be combined to make larger units. Interested restaurant operators should contact Alder King’s Exeter office on 01392 353080.
The residential complex will include 14 high-end holiday apartments and 14 luxury private residential apartments, all enjoying spectacular sea-views across the bay and private parking.
The developers will also undertake substantial public space improvements directly in front of the development.
Work on the scheme will commence imminently following demolition of the former hotel. The restaurants are due for completion in the Spring/Summer of 2014.
Scott Rossiter, partner at Alder King, said: “Torquay has waited a long time to see this prominent site redeveloped. After the difficulties of the past few years, we are all agreed that Abbey Crescent is an extremely exciting scheme and will add a real touch of glamour to the seafront.”
