GVA has launched its 2018 Future Development Map, which outlines the key development sites in Bristol, and the pockets of land where there is still growth opportunity.
With an ambitious pipeline of projects already underway in Bristol and highlighted on the Future Development Map, a platform for the city’s success is being built. Perhaps the most significant development of a generation lies within the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone – the £300m University of Bristol campus – which will provide far reaching impetus across the city. Together with future projects such as the proposed redevelopment of Broadmead and Temple Circus, and those ongoing at Finzels Reach, Redcliff Quarter and Wapping Wharf, all act as a conduit to attract new people and businesses, reinforcing Bristol’s strength as a desirable place to live and work
With affordable housing a top priority for Bristol City Council and development land in the city remaining scarce, GVA anticipates seeing some ambitious plans being considered for council-owned land across the city. Proposals for approximately 800 dwellings in Lockleaze and 2,000 at Hengrove Park are coming forward, together with a number of other smaller schemes across the city. Cumberland Basin is being considered as a major new development opportunity that could provide a significant number of units.
Gordon Isgrove, Regional Senior Director at GVA concludes, “Bristol and the wider catchment area continue to deliver strong economic growth and we are creating a platform from which to gain further momentum. Yet the limited availability of land for future development threatens to stifle growth for future generations, which as a city we need to address, alongside improved transport and digital infrastructure, if we are to continue maximising our potential.”
