Cushman & Wakefield has appointed Paulo Sarmento as the new head of its 13-strong Capital Markets team in Portugal. He will also be part of the EMEA Capital Markets team, based in London.
With more than 20 years’ experience in the local and international property markets, specifically in retail development, investment and management, Sarmento was a Principal at Meyer Bergman, prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield. In that capacity, he focused on acquisitions and asset management across Europe, and was also in charge of acquisitions on a pan-European basis for a fund specialising in outlet villages.
Prior to that Sarmento worked at Multi Development as Managing Director for Italy and Brazil and as Commercial Director for Southern Europe, and at Sonae Sierra as Leasing and Marketing Manager. He holds a degree in Psychology and an MBA in General Management.
Eric van Leuven, Head of Cushman & Wakefield in Portugal, said: “We are very fortunate to have been able to attract such a seasoned property professional as Paulo, who brings with him a wealth of experience in analyzing and negotiating investment opportunities, as well as privileged contacts with the international investor community.”
In 2017 Cushman & Wakefield’s Capital Markets team was responsible for some of the most high-profile transactions in Portugal, including the sale of the Entreposto building, two office buildings in Quinta Fonte, two large retail portfolios, the sale of Ecoparque II logistics platform in Azambuja and the sale of the Vintage Lisbon hotel.
