A 20,000 sq ft warehouse at a Barnsley industrial estate is to undergo extensive refurbishment by new owners to help satisfy pent up demand in the region.
Overseas investors bought J38 Industrial Estate at Darton, near Barnsley, which comprises 215,000 sq ft of space across 16-acres, back in April 2017 with South Street Capital asset managing on their behalf.
The work on Unit 3a has now started and includes some selective demolition to create a much larger yard for external loading areas along with full refurbishment including over cladding and internal fit out.
Helen Macrow, director – asset management at South Street Capital, said: “Our plans for the site are to make substantial investment to improve the quality of the accommodation available, to meet the high demand for warehouse and industrial premises of this type in the region.”
Rebecca Schofield, partner at Knight Frank and head of the Yorkshire Industrial team which was appointed to market J38 Industrial Estate, said: “There is a shortage of good quality accommodation available in the market at present in both South and West Yorkshire and this is an exciting opportunity to provide good quality accommodation to satisfy pent-up demand.”
Current tenants on the industrial estate, which features CCTV and barrier entry system, include Premdor Crosby, Rightcast and Thyssenkrupp Materials.
Junction 38 Industrial Estate is located within 1.5 miles of the M1 motorway at Junction 38, approximately five miles north-west of Barnsley town centre and eight miles south of Wakefield town centre.
