Birmingham independent commercial property agency KWB has sold two West Midlands’ former police stations, for a combined sale value of £2.27 million.
Acting on behalf of the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, KWB’s Martin Cook sold the freeholds of the former police stations in Walsall and in Shirley in Solihull.
Corbally Investments has acquired unconditionally the freehold of the former Walsall Police Station, a 36,500 sq ft office building on a 1.6 acre site, on the corner of Green Lane (A34), Blue Lane East and part of Court Way, next door to Walsall Magistrates Court. It is believed that a new mixed use development is planned for the site.
MIA Property Group has acquired unconditionally the freehold of the former Shirley Police Station, an 8,042 sq ft office building on a 0.43 acre site, situated on the A34 Stratford Road in Shirley, between Morrison’s supermarket and Dove Tree Court retirement apartments. It is believed that a high density residential scheme is planned for the site.
The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, says: “I am delighted more than £2 million has been raised by the sale of these police stations. Whilst buildings like these were once highly valued, state of the art technology has allowed West Midlands Police to become even more efficient. The money raised from this sale will help me invest in vital police services.”
Mr Cook says: “There was a high level of interest from a number of potential buyers in both these sites, helping to deliver capital receipts of more than £2.25 million for the Police and Crime Commissioner. We are presently marketing the former police station in Kingswinford, and this too has attracted strong interest.”
