A growing Derby-based consultancy of planners, architects, and designers, has opened its fourth office – in Sheffield.
Planning Design, which was set up 15 years ago by Jonathan Jenkin and is based in Vernon Gate, has set up the new office to take advantage of Sheffield’s growth.
He said that the company saw Sheffield as an opportunity with its economy, entrepreneurial spirit, and outlook, with people wanting help for businesses and housing.
“So there’s opportunity to expand premises and build new ones and we provide both planning and architectural services,” he said.
As well as seeking planning consent, the company can design premises, deal with building regulations and oversee construction.
“It’s also a natural extension for us as we work in North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire as well as having several clients already in the Sheffield area,” Jonathan said.
The main representative at Planning Design’s new office in The Portergate, Ecclesall Road, is Michael Bamford who has been with the company for almost three years.
Originally from Lancashire, Michael (29) knows the area well. “I put roots down there and never left,” he said. Michael studied at the University there where he gained a BA and Masters degrees in planning, and lives at Totley.
“It’s handy for the Peak District where I do a lot of outdoor sports such as fell-running and mountain biking.”
“It’s a big responsibility to take charge of the Sheffield office and grow the business there and I’m grateful for the opportunity. There’s a lot of potential and we have seen that in the early days there.”
Planning Design currently has 12 staff and in addition to Derby has offices in Matlock and Macclesfield. “We are expecting to grow the Sheffield office and eventually take on more staff,” Jonathan added.
