Multi-disciplinary construction company, Edmond Shipway, has completed work as mechanical and electrical consultants on a £3.25million extension at a Double Tree by Hilton hotel designed by Nottingham firm Franklin Ellis architects.
The M & E contract was awarded to Edmond Shipway in March of last year, with work beginning on the project in November. Construction reached completion at the end of September.
The work took place at the existing Double Tree by Hilton hotel, on Chesterfield Road South in Sheffield, creating a 36-bedroom extension.
Edmond Shipway, who have offices on Millennium Way West, in Nottingham, provided mechanical and electrical design services, as well as taking on a technical assessor role, which included checking contractor design proposals and installations on-site.
They also carried out detailed reviews of the construction-phase design information to ensure all work was compliant with Hilton guidelines as well as inspecting the work in progress to ensure that a high quality installation was achieved.
On the mechanical side, this included the design of air conditioning systems to provide heating and cooling to each guestroom, ventilation systems, domestic hot and cold water services and above-ground drainage services.
The electrical services included electrical power and data systems, fire alarm and detection systems, lighting and emergency lighting systems and security and CCTV systems.
Further key features of the work undertaken by Edmond Shipway included being responsible for outline proposals and performance specifications, which the contractor, J F Finnegan Ltd, was required to adhere to.
The project, which was awarded to Edmond Shipway by Vine Hotels, was particularly challenging as the new extension had to be built while the hotel remained fully operational, and there needed to be a seamless integration of the new and existing services.
Scott Green, director of mechanical and electrical services at Edmond Shipway said: “We are delighted to have worked with Vine Hotels to help design and construct the new 36-bed extension at Double Tree by Hilton, in Sheffield. By working holistically with the design team, we have successfully helped to deliver a high quality extension, helping the existing hotel to enhance its offering.”
Ben Dudley, associate partner at Franklin Ellis Architects said: “We’re really pleased to have successfully completed this project at Double Tree Sheffield with Vine Hotels. The extension consolidates the hotel as a premium conferencing and leisure offer serving South Yorkshire and the Midlands.”
Vine Hotels are well established in the hotel sector, owning and operating a portfolio of high quality hotels.
