Goodman, a global leader in the ownership, development and management of industrial property, has today announced that it has signed a deal with C.H. Robinson to develop and lease a new 70,000 sq ft built to suit logistics centre at its successful Derby Commercial Park development, situated in the East Midlands.
Construction of the new development commenced with a ground-breaking ceremony which was attended by representatives from both C.H. Robinson and Goodman. It’s expected that the new facility will take seven months to construct and will be available for occupation in May 2018.
C. H. Robinson a Fortune 500 global provider of transportation services and third-party logistics (3PL), has signed a 15-year lease on the development and intends to use the facility to expand the range of transportation and logistics services it provides for its customers throughout the UK and globally.
At the same time, Goodman has confirmed its intentions to develop a new warehouse and industrial development of 32,000 sq ft on the adjacent plot at Derby Commercial Park. The building, which will be constructed to a minimum, BREEAM Very Good Specification will include 30,378 sq ft of warehouse space, together with 2,365 sq ft offices.
It will feature 12 metre clear internal height together with parking for 43 cars and will be suitable for a range of businesses seeking to base their distribution and logistics operations from Derby Commercial Park.
Speaking about the announcements, Goodman Managing Director, Charles Crossland said: “We are very pleased to be working with C.H Robinson to develop this new built to suit distribution centre facility which will provide the space the business requires to grow into and expand.
The strength of location together with high quality specification were instrumental in C.H Robinson’s decision to base its operations in Derby Commercial Park. This is consistent with Goodman’s focus on providing modern, high quality logistics facilities that reduce costs and distribution time, for our customers to be more competitive and efficient.
We see C.H. Robinson’s commitment as proof of strong demand in the area, therefore we have decided to expand Derby Commercial Park’s capacity with an additional modern warehouse on the site.”
Also commenting, Ivo Aris, Vice President, Europe Global Forwarding from C.H. Robinson said: “We are very pleased with the new development. The new office space and distribution facilities will enable C.H. Robinson to further serve our customer’s needs for years to come. The office space creates an upscale environment for our employees, who are our biggest asset, and the warehouse facilities are remarkable.”
The decision to develop an additional 32,000 sq ft of new logistics and industrial space alongside will bring much needed additional floorspace and capacity to Derby, recognising the severe lack of supply of new buildings in the face of continued strong demand from customers seeking to expand into modern and efficient logistics accommodation.
Derby Commercial Park is a premier location for logistics located two miles east of Derby city centre. The site is approximately 16 miles west of Nottingham and 30 miles north west of Leicester, and benefits from direct access to major arterial roads including the M1, A50 and A6.
It is home to the pan-European Distribution Headquarters and logistics operations of leading fashion label Ted Baker which occupies a 323,895 sq ft facility developed by Goodman last year. Other customers at the Park also include Kuehne + Nagel and Heineken who occupy a 632,000 sq ft cross-docked distribution centre also developed by Goodman recently.
Overall the development offers Industrial, warehouse and distribution units available up to 700,000 sq ft with detailed planning for a 550,504 sq ft unit.
C.H. Robinson was advised by Commercial Property Partners.
