Grant Thornton has appointed a new Director in Aberdeen as part of an ongoing growth strategy in the north of Scotland.
The business and financial adviser has hired Heather Smallwood, who will lead the firm’s tax service offering in the city and play a major role in driving further growth in the region.
Heather, who joins from EY, has more than 30 years’ experience in taxation including roles with HMRC and the big 4. The Chartered Tax Advisor also has developed extensive knowledge in the energy sector, and is a leading expert in global mobility issues.
Commenting on the appointment, Barry Fraser, Managing Director of Grant Thornton in Aberdeen, said:
“Grant Thornton’s Aberdeen office opened last year and in that short time we’ve made a number of key hires following a series of significant client wins. Heather’s reputation in the marketplace is excellent and her knowledge of the oil and gas sector, combined with her tax insight, will perfectly complement our current offering, enabling us to capitalise on new opportunities as the city’s economic recovery continues.”
Heather added:
“There’s a real sense of cautious optimism developing in Aberdeen, with increased activity and a feeling that we now have an opportunity to rebuild lost ground and return to growth. Grant Thornton’s focus on developing a vibrant economy built on purpose really echoes the new attitude in the north east and I’m looking forward to joining the growing team, playing a leading role in the future success of the business and the wider region.”
