Last month saw the approval by North Somerset Council of a 120 bed Holiday Inn Express brand Hotel. Developed jointly between MRMU Ltd and Dowlas at a key entrance point to Weston-super-Mare on the A370 at Worle, this exciting addition to Junction 21 Enterprise Area will compliment the existing Knightstone Housing HQ and the host of other developments in planning for Weston Gateway Business Park due to come out of the ground in the next 18 months at Weston Gateway Business Park.
At a cost of £12m this new development will not only serve travellers on M5, but as the first 4 star hotel for Weston-super-Mare it’s development is viewed as a step change toward improving the hotel accommodation offer not only for those visiting the area for pleasure but those increasingly coming to North Somerset for business.
Commenting on the scheme Developer Dowlas said:
“This will be a welcome addition to the continued success at Weston Gateway Business Park. To be able to deliver the first four-star hotel for Weston will be a valuable attraction for future investment in the Junction 21 Enterprise Area.”
MRMU Ltd went on to comment, “MRMU is delighted to receive approval for this exciting project which will provide jobs and opportunities for local people – and contribute to the ongoing regeneration of the Junction 21 Enterprise Area. It is an important milestone in the project.
We are confident the hotel will provide a landmark building in a prominent gateway location. It will provide an important new asset to the town that will attract businesspeople and tourists alike.
MRMU would like to thank North Somerset Council for putting their trust in our vision for the site and the project team for their hard work to date. We now look forward to starting the construction and to the completion of the hotel, of which we will all be proud.”
Picking up on the wider positive impact, Stephen Bashford, Head of Economic Development at North Somerset Council said:
“This scheme has evolved into something that represents a truly modern gateway both for the Junction 21 Enterprise Area and Weston. It setting a marker demonstrating the ambition North Somerset Council has toward the regeneration and investment of the wider town.”
Due to open in spring 2018 at Weston Gateway Business Park, this comes as part of the wider positive news for the UK based InterContinental Group (IHG), owner of the Holiday Inn Express Brand, as IHG see annual revenues edge up 2% to £657.8million with underlying profit up 7% to £280.1million.
