Scott Liddle, Group Commercial Director at Acorn – one of the UK’s leading providers of high quality recruitment and training solutions, is celebrating after being shortlisted for the National Institute of Director Awards 2017, which honour many of UK’s most influential and motivational business leaders.
Scott has been shortlisted in the Mid-Market Company Director of the Year category, which is open to all directors of companies with an annual turnover of £10-£99.9 million. Scott will be directly competing against 11 other finalists from across the UK. Altogether 79 finalists have been shortlisted in 10 categories.
Robert Lloyd Griffiths, Director of IoD Wales, said: “Congratulations to Scott, this is a great achievement. The judges will be looking for an individual who demonstrates deep industry expertise, is respected by their peers, and has the imagination and courage to be a true growth champion for the business and market segment in which they operate.”
Scott started his career as a mechanical technician apprentice before working his way up to his current role as Acorn’s Group Commercial Director, overseeing all UK operations.
As Group Commercial Director, Scott is now responsible for the sales activity for 34 branches and over 260 staff, as well as the company’s growth and profitability.
Scott said: “Acorn is a truly inspiring place to be, and to win this award would be a great honour. The fact that I started as a state-sponsored apprentice is a fantastic way to show people how hard work and commitment can pay off.”
The National IoD Awards have become an established highlight on the business calendar and celebrate business achievements and inspirational leaders across the United Kingdom while bringing all sectors of the business community together, irrespective of size, geography and longevity.
Scott said: “I was thrilled to win the IOD Wales Director of the Year Award for the Medium / Large category, as it is testament to the great results that myself and everyone at Acorn have achieved. I am now delighted to have been announced as a finalist for the UK final and share this success with the people I work with. I believe that I am a strong example of how hard work and passion can translate into success and would love to demonstrate this with the recognition of a UK IOD Award.”
The winners of each category will be announced at a special celebratory lunch on 22nd September at the Lancaster London hotel. It will be hosted by Joe Lynam, BBC Business presenter and correspondent.
