The Midlands office of leading family-owned construction company Willmott Dixon is celebrating after scooping Gold in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Health and Safety Awards for the fourth consecutive year.
The RoSPA Awards scheme is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes, both across the UK and internationally, and recognises excellence in occupational health and safety management systems – including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
Gold medals are presented to organisations that sustain high standards over a number of consecutive years. Willmott Dixon picked up its fourth award in a row for its dedication to ensuring safe practices onsite, including its commitment to occupational health and workforce involvement.
Nick Gibb, Deputy Managing Director for Willmott Dixon’s Midlands region, said: “We are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our employees and are delighted to have been recognised for our efforts for the fourth year in a row by RoSPA.
“As a national building contractor working on a number of large-scale, flagship developments across the region, our people work in a high-risk environment day-in and day-out and safety really is priority. We continue to invest heavily in ensuring our teams have access to continuous development and training in this area, as well as implementing strict safety practices across our sites.”
Willmott Dixon are currently onsite on several high-profile developments in Birmingham, including the £18.4m National College for High Speed Rail (NCHSR), which is due to complete in the coming weeks, as well as the £31m Curzon B Building for Birmingham City University. The contractor is also onsite at The Lewis Building, the former Lewis’s department store on Bull Street, where a comprehensive refurbishment to provide high-quality office accommodation is nearing completion.
Julia Small, head of awards and events at RoSPA, said: “The RoSPA Awards are the most prestigious in the world of occupational health and safety, and held in high regard around the world, as winning one demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record. Achieving the standard required is no mean feat.”
As RoSPA marks its 67th annual awards, this year is a special one, as the charity celebrates its centenary. National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOH) is the headline sponsor for the 12th consecutive year.
