One of the UK’s largest decorator’s merchants will create five jobs when it opens its first store in Nottingham – after finding premises in a deal overseen by commercial property agency Innes England.
Brewers Decorator Centres – which offers paints, wallpapers, fabrics, rollers, brushes and tools to tradespeople – hopes to move into the unit fronting Hucknall Lane in Bulwell this summer.
The company, which is currently on the lookout for another unit in the south of Nottingham, has 156 stores across England and Wales.
Marcus Ward, area manager at Brewers, said: “Brewers is pleased to announce the opening of a new branch in Nottingham. Located just off the M1, it is an ideal location to serve existing customers in the area as well as attract new ones.
“This branch has created five new jobs and is part of Brewers’ expansion plan of 25 new branches by the end of 2020.”
The retail unit, totalling 3,590 sq ft, was previously home to pet superstore Kennelgate, which permanently closed in January after 20 years in Bulwell. Nearby occupiers include car servicing company Kwik-Fit and trade tools retailer ScrewFix.
Brewers opened its first store in Eastbourne in 1904. Today it has branches across the country – from St Austell to Lowestoft and Bangor to Hull – and the company is hoping to expand its operation further over the next several years.
Scott Osborne, associate director at Innes England, handled the acquisition for Brewers. He said: “Brewers had been looking to acquire a property in Nottingham for some time and we had been waiting for the right opportunity before making an offer.
“Together we decided Nottingham is large enough to warrant multiple stores and this one in Bulwell is perfect for the company’s first venture as it is in an attractive location with lots of other big named businesses in the area.
“We are currently on the lookout for similar opportunities in Nottingham, possibly in the south of the city.”
