A new hotel in West Bromwich has opened its doors to guests for the first time following the completion of the £5 million development, it was announced this week.
The new hotel is a welcome boost to the regeneration of the town, transforming a brownfield site located next to the West Bromwich Building Society’s new headquarters.
In June last year, work officially started on the 78-bed Travelodge development at Providence Place, West Bromwich. Andy Elwell, director of leading commercial property developers and contractors Hinton Group, announced that the 34-week project had been completed on time and on budget.
Andy said: “It’s great to see the Travelodge development in West Bromwich reach practical completion and to hear that it was fully booked for its first night.
“The Travelodge will provide the town with a much-needed facility in a key location. I am sure it will be a welcome addition to the regeneration of West Bromwich town centre and also a convenient hub in its prime location with direct access to the M6/M5 links and Birmingham city centre.
“We have a great working relationship with Travelodge and we are currently working on several more projects with them. We are also actively looking for further Travelodge development opportunities nationwide.”
The West Bromwich hotel is expected to create 25 full and part-time jobs, while more than 80 jobs were created during construction.
Travelodge’s UK development director Tony O’Brien said: “We are delighted to have secured such a prominent site in the heart of West Bromwich. The new Travelodge forms part of the recently opened Providence Place development, adjacent to West Bromwich Building Society’s new HQ and 50m from BT’s new Regional Business Centre. The site also adjoins the A41 and so it is easy to find and access and provide quick, direct connections to the M5.
“There has been massive regeneration of West Bromwich’s town centre in the last few years, with millions of pounds having been invested in new retail, restaurant and entertainment facilities, the new college campus and leisure centre and lots of new flats and houses. The new Travelodge will now provide great quality, value accommodation for business and leisure customers visiting the town and surrounding area.
“The Travelodge is comfort cooled and has on-site car parking and a bar cafe, but, with over 60 shops, 14 restaurants and cafes and the Odeon Cinema and Pure Gym all less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel, we suspect many of our customers will want to enjoy the new town centre facilities.”
Hinton Group, based in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, is working closely with Travelodge to deliver new developments at key locations across the region. In Dudley, Hinton Group is expected to reach practical completion of a £6 million 78-bed Travelodge adjacent to the Black Country Living Museum at the end of July.
Meanwhile, in Telford Southwater planning consent has been secured from Telford & Wrekin Council for another Travelodge hotel and work is expected to start on site next month (June).
Hinton Design and Build, the construction arm of the group, has also started on site at Melksham, Wiltshire, where it will deliver a new 60-bed Travelodge with a Greggs unit and a Stabucks drive-thru. Hinton Group has also secured two further sites to deliver 150 Travelodge rooms.
